Huh...I've had mine on various cars in the back window (2005 Toyota Corolla, 1991 Jaguar XJS, 2002 Saturn SC2 and now my 2007 Mustang GT) and never had problems with reception here, even when I went under an overpass. Maybe it's where I live and I'm picking up better reception from the satellite vs. somewhere else in the US?

I placed mine on the dash, up by the VIN number....I had mine on the back deck but my window tinting was interfering with reception...so I moved it. On the dash, it gets just as good of reception as the XM antenna on the roof of my truck.
