I like the concept, and have thought about this before, but after consideration, I doubt that these systems would be effective. It comes right down to the reason you have a V8 instead of a 4 banger, I just don't see a 12 volt electric motor being able to deliver the necessary force to put air under pressurethe way a mechanically driven blower can.

It produces 6 psi so technically this should work. Only thing is I don't know if it's gonna last. But seriously, for something to force the air into the engine, it does not necessarily have to be belt driven or spun by exhaust gases-- it could be anything that can blow the air.

I agree it doesn't matter what drives it, but 6 psi is the absolute minimum for what could be considered forced induction. Thatsupports my belief. You can bet that whoever designed and made it did everything they could in benchwork to get it up that high. Real world is gonna be 3-4 psi if that. And if deador extra batteries are a necessary evil of this device, I'm sure it's not worth it.

This technology looks interesting. It's cool that someone is thinking outside the box, but I'm kind of wondering if something this easy could be done, it would have been done already.

I wonder if it would be reasonable for a high-amperage alternator to take the place of the four batteries? If that were possible, then it would seem reasonable for this to actually work.

most come with their own altenator but it looks like they are mainly for 4-bangers

This seems like essentially the same thing as a procharger, really the only difference is that instead of a using a belt to get power from the crankshaft, the electric motor is drawing power form the alternator, which is powered by the crankshaft. It seems like the procharger would be more efficient, but the electric turbo may be easier to mount, since it's not restricted by a belt.

the article did say the electric blowers are only capable to be effective on an engine 2.5 liters or smaller.... guess that puts an end to it eh?

Inefficient, because the elec. motor is say, 80% eff (the general Power Factor of induction motors is 0.8), which must get its power from the alternator, which is also 80% eff, which gets its drive from the engine.

I would say boost is boost whether it's from a belt driven supercharger, or an electricsupercharger.
