+1

First year production run. Mines going in the garage in a few years and up on jack stands.
Then I'm going out to buy a new Mustang.

These opportunities are over. Mass production of these cars is such that they'll never reach 'stupid values or become rare. Couple that with the fact that more people WILL be keeping their rides back for such a day will ensure it never happens.
You need to keep a car back which ISN'T as desirable, they are the rides that get dumped and forgotten only to become real collectable later on........

I think the ones who leave them stock and not drive them will be worth a few dollars, especially because most of us mod the hell out of them.

In this world of "pre-collect-ability"(in other words, counting your chickens before they hatch), everything already seemingly has "collectible" attached to it[:@].No onecan predict what the future value of a given vehicle may bring. Back in the 80s, early year Mustangs were a dime a dozen, what set them apart? I really believe because of the variances in the available equipment in the early cars and the scarceness of the hi-po K-code engined cars and add to that the baby boomer generation, which were adolescents when the cars were new, and now had money to burn(Regan-nomics, junk bonds, etc. during the eighties) the cars sky-rocketed(plus, because no one knew that performance would be back stronger than ever by the early 90s) and as they age, will never come back to earth, price-wise.
Who knows what the future holds for the "first year" S197s, but due to the fact that there isn't really anything that seperates them from any other GT models(different engines/trans/brakingaren't available), I think only the Shelby models will retain some sort of value(to later be determined by who's after them).
So no, I don't think 1st year S197s will be anything special in the future IMO.

If history is any indication, I think you can assume that there were way too many made and available to make them increase in value. One thing for sure if you want the maximum resale value keep all your stock parts when you do mods and put them back on when you want to sell.

Agreed. If it does happen to become a collector's item one day (and I'm not sure it will), then a stock mustang is better than a modded mustang.
