Poor auto trans shifting on '06 V6
I've had my '06 for about 2 years and have never been happy with the way it downshifts. On the highway, it takes a few seconds to kickdown when trying to pass. Seems like I hit the gas and nothing much happens other than RPM's increasing then it finally kicks down. Also, when turning onto a road with a slight incline and hitting the gas to maintain speed, it also does not respond by downshifting, just seems to bog down. So, wondering if that's justthe way it is with '06 auto trans or if there's something wrong with mine. Any thoughts? Thanks

when I step on it.. it goes. It didn't before the tune. The throttle leg in these cars can get borderline dangerous. I got sick of having to wait 3 seconds for my car to do what I wanted. Now my throttle response is almost immediate. It is an auto.. so sometimes you and the car have different ideas regarding what gear you should be in.. but... at least for me.. the CAI tune combo did it.

If it doesnt work after a tune, your car sucks and you should sell it, or you didnt get it tuned correctly. If you want to have a car with lots of power for the freeway and inclined roads, your going to need to do some performance mods. V6 mustangs (stock) dont have alot going for them besides good looks.

my 2005 GT w/ auto has the same problem. It can be scary when changing lanes to pass some turd going too slow and looking in the rear view mirror and seeing a maniac come speeding up on you. You floor it and nothing happens until the silly French-made tranny kicks down. This usually happens when I'm in 5th and need to be in 2nd or 3rd. I think flooring it causes the computer to get confused, and our drive-by-wire isn't helping any.
This is a different transmission from the V-6 but why would they both have the same problem?
Anyone have any successful fixes?

Hey Tungstendude, telling me that I should have a V8 doesn't help much. I'm long over the whole HP thing, but I do expect reasonably responsive performance at least equal to Maxima or MDX (both V6's but FWD). Just wanted to know if it's the way it is with V6 Auto Stangs or not. Thanks Orion_240. Your comment was helpful.

It's the infamous double downshift. All of the auto S197's have it. I would imagine that the V6 is slightly worse due to much less torque (never driven one). I have a highly tuned auto and under certain circumstances I just Opt to use the button on the side of the shifter. Heavy load ie: interstate on-ramp going up-hill, push the button. A good tune (some have allready been mentioned) will get you shifting like a muscle car should really be shifting. And from everythingI have read and heard it will get your V6 feeling nearly like a stock GT
