Hand build your own engine. Once you see how "tolerant" things like bearings, seals, rings etc are - and how much work is involved in checking tolerances and correcting any imperfections you will know what I mean.

I know what you mean. I have built a few engines in the past. (1960's) Getting back to the oil issue, how much pressure is too much? That is the question here.

My concern in using a thicker weight oil would be it's posssible adverse impact on the 4.6L variable valve timing function which is hydraulically operated via the engine oil. I have had problems in the past with thicker oils causing hydraulic lifter malfunctions in other engines I have owned. From my own personal experience, I will stick with the factory recommended oil. Despite what the cynics say, Ford really does want your engine to run well and to last a long time. Whilefuel economy is always a factor these days (as it should be), it would be corporate suicide for Ford to recommend an oil that wouldsignificantly reduce the life of yourengine just for the sake of an extra mpg.

Exactly. Ford is trying to boost their reputation, not hurt it. They are in for the long haul. They know folks are going to go out and "beat" on these engines. They will get future sales out of those owners. It's the same as it always has been. Take care of things, do it by the book and usually, things will work out for the best. I'm not going to use my engine as a lab rat.

Wal-mart sells mobile one. Im yet to see what you guys are talking about. Are you reffering to like "wal-mart brand" oil? Because if so i'd say yeh, stay away from that. But i buy mobile 1 from walmart, its cheaper.
M1 at wal-mart is second grade to M1 bought elsewhere for more money.

They are walmart, king of crap.
Ever went in there for just some Q-Tips and left
with $100 or more of stuff you didnt need before
you stepped into the door. The brainwash you into
thinking you are getting the best price. And dont
even buy their name brandfood items. Yuck.
