Default Oil leak??????

I asked this question in the General Tech section, but abosulutely nobody goes in that forum....lol... so I'm asking my fellow S197'ers this question as well.

My gf's old 1993 acura vigor has a oil leak... A guy told me it had an oil pan gasket problem and that it needed to be replaced. I called around and got quotes for about $750... needless to say... we aren't gonna put that type of money into that car, b/c we're about to trade it in for another car at the car lot and its barely worth anything.

I was in Auto Zone yesterday and I saw a couple of oil additives that claim to stop leaks... Are there any products out there that any of you guys have heard about that will stop an oil leak?

Thanks in advance for the help![8D]

Some claim to "condition" the rubber gaskets and soften them up a bit which MAY help out. I like to view them pretty much as snake oil. But, for a few dollars, you could try one and see. I don't have any recomendations. Crap shoot.

I saw one advertised on Two Guys Garage last week. Check out their web site. It may have been a BarsLeak product but I'm not sure.

I always had good luck with Engine Honey on my old 81 Toyota pickup.
It used to leakout of the rear main seal and get on the clutch.
I think a took a few oil changes till the leak was gone though...

If you are getting ready to trade it, i wouldnt worry about it. Any dealer will know its a turd when you bring it in, and they are gonna give you the same amount whether its leaking or not. Most dealers just wholesale cars like this to local used car centers

Drop the oil pan and replace the gasket. It will take approximately 15 minutes.
