Default 92 Octane Gas on Stock GT

I just removed my CAI and returned my stang to the stock tune for a state inspection I'm having done at my Ford dealer. I need to put gas in the tank. Will I be alright sticking with 92 octane on the stock tune or should I put some 87 in there? I don't plan on doing too much driving before the inspectionand will be reinstalling the CAI and 91 tune right after the inspection.

The 91 should be fine. Its only a problem if you use an octane lower than your tune.

I figure I'd be O.K. But the car does seem to be backfiring a little, nothing major. Is this a result ot the 92 Octane gas?

No, it shouldn't cause you engine to backfire.

When is it backfiring? During startup only or just when driving around? Remember, backfiring is a loud POP or BANG that sounds like a shotgun or something. If it's during startup and you get a nice roar then that's normal.

91 or 92 octane with a stock tune is just fine and is preferred in your situation since you'll be reinstalling the aftermarket tune.

I noticed it when I was sitting in my garage and gave it some throttle. It is a very minor popping as the engine returns to idle rpm's.

Mine is totally stock and has always done that since the first time I drove it with 9 miles on it, and still does it after 18,000 miles.

Why are you having to remove the CAI for inspection? I know if you remove the cats, you have to put those back for inspection, but I didn't think a CAI would cause you to fail the emissions tests.
