When you read all the hype on these mods you think its just that... hype from someone who wants to believe after spending all that cash that it has to be good. Well when your car all of a sudden seems to want to tear-*** with the slightest pressure on the gas pedal you know its for real.

Congrats man.

It's no joke. CAI and tune is the best bang for the buck mod these cars can take. I had the exact same reaction when I installed my 93 tune w/ C&L from Brent.

Congrats!

ORIGINAL: CFLstangGT

what is the rough power gain from doing a CAI and tune?

I have the k&n intake already, no tune. Looking at b@m@, should I expect a huge difference? what kind of numbers improvement?

you'll gain about 10%................JMO but I'd lose the K&N and go with another cai though. The K&N intake tube is small and retrictive. C&L, JLT II, Steeda are all regarded as the best on the market.

Edit:
A tune will get rid of the throttle lag and firm up your shift points as well

For the OP, yep you made a good choice with the cai/tune it becomes a whole different car....gears are the next best performance mod IMO 3.73's work great for the auto

My reaction was similar, but I think I used the f-word instead.

I installed my C&L racer and 87 tune from Brenspeed this week, and I completely agree. I have some timeslips from an 1/8 mile track from earlier this summer, and I'm going to run it again with the 87 tune and then the 93 tune to see measured results. I'll post them when I get them.

One thing I've noticed about this upgrade is the gas pedal is DEFINITELY more sensitive, almost too much so. I'd like a little more control for lower throttle range, and I'm going to contact Brenspeed to see how I might be able to do this. I'll let you guys know what I learn. And I got a BIG chirp shifting from 2nd to 3rd! WOOHOO! I've also noticed it shifts at about 6200 now with WOT...Is this too high?

I'm just running the middle of the road 89 tune on mine, so I'll be curious to see your results. I've run cars in the past with tunes pushing the limits of available octane (91 or 93, depending) and always had problems with "bad gas" or certain stations that would cause pinging. I'm not sure how sensitive this car is, but didn't want to mess with it. I put in premium and I've had no problems...

Oh, one more thing about the C&L and tune....the SOUND. It's perfect! I have the stock exhaust (which from much reading cannot be much improved upon for performance without headers...) and the new sound is exactly what I wanted. It's fairly quiet at idle, has a decent growl with normal acceleration, and is just plain MEAN at WOT. I revved it up this morning at work for my buddies, (with the hood up...I was showing off my new stuff!) and they had to hold their ears! They all had the same reaction... BIG grins and all wanting to go for a ride.

I love my Mustang!

Isn't it great. I keep smiling every time I hit the gas. The best mod. Ouple it w/ 4.10 and a Hurst shifter, the fun factor goes way up. Congrats and enjoy.
