want to paint my new shelby spoiler....
I need some expert opinions. I bought an unpainted shelby spoiler and i want to try to paint it myself, but ive never painted before and i have no idea how to do it. Im going to read up on it, and i already have a nice gun HVLP. So basically my question is should i just get it painted by a shop, or should i try it myself? The only reason i would do it myself is just to get the experience, because i like doing things myself. Is it really THAT hard?

There was a sticky on one of the forums where someone was painting a whole car and would be providing a step-by-step, but I guess nowadays you can always log on and find a how to.

Do your homework on this one. You will need to get a quart of paint from the local auto paint shop, depending on the type of paint, you may need additives for application on a urethane surface. You will also need Thinner to thin down the paint for spraying, a preparation solvent for wiping down the spoiler before you paintand clearcoat to spray over the finish color.Make sure you practice spraying with your gun. You will need paint filters, a viscosity cup, a good regulator and water separator for the compressor, sandpaper, and a dust free environment to spray in. There are several books out on auto painting, it's best to get one and read it thoroughly. Because a spoiler is such a small paint project, by the time you get all the stuff you needto do the job and do it right, It would probably cost about the same or less to have a shop do it for you.

Thanks Jerjan, thats the exact response i was looking for. Looks like ill be taking it to a shop to get painted, ill wait until i have something bigger to paint or something else to practice on before i go and spray anything important. Thanks again!
