Default Cost of a dyno tune

Went to a Mustang performance shop today to get a quote on a dynotune for my 07 N/A. $360!!!! Seems real expensive to me. Is this an average price? This quote took into consideration that I have my own SCT Xcalibrator.

I called a shop by me and they wanted $125/hr on the dyno, they told me it'd take about 2 hours. Then another $150 for the final tune. Needless to say, I'll be getting a mail order tune for the time being.

I say that 350 - 400 is about average for a really good shop ... I have seen some charge 600 and I paid 125 so it just depends on where you go and what their reputation is

My shop charges 200 an hour and they usually have you in and out within that hour. Squeezed out 7hp and 12tq at the wheels with their tune over my canned one.

That's really a loaded question (no pun intended)

It's going to depend on your mods and how much tweaking you want done. For basic bolt-ons I personally don't feel it's worth it to spend hundreds of dollars on a custom tune. When you start changing heads, cams, throttle bodies, etc - now your looking at a few hours of dyno time. If you just have an intake, cmcv plates, pullies, etc., then a canned tune is all you really need.

IMO you should get a dyno tune when it is NEEDED - not to squeeze out a few extra h.p.

thanks for the replies. Doesnt sound like 7HP or so is worth 360. Ill save it towards FI.

Sorry, guess that came out wrong. I already had my car tuned previously but I added a few new parts so I wanted it retuned because I was running lean, the extra hp was a bonus

it also depends on what the car is being tunes for. example, a tune for n2o is going to be much more then just a dyno tune for a car with just CAI and exaust.
