I use Turtle Wax's ICE liquid polish on my stripes, they don't leave a residue and are safe on plastics/vinyls. I did my entire car with the ICE polish, then just the painted areas with NXT afterward.
No issues yet........................

+1 on the ice wax. I use the paste and just wax over my stripes. I also have 3m stripes though.

I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe

ICE wax. I love the detailer.

The reason: I did it today for the 10th time, and no matter HOW long i let it sit, IT never dries.

All it does is leave oil on the paint, which never comes off.

I actually iced the whole thing about 2 hrs ago, and took me 2 to get the **** off. (pardon the language)

had to use detailer and liquid glass to remove it

I actually didn't care for the ICE when I first applied it to my sister's car(her car was the experiment), although you must remember, ICE works best when it's over 70 degrees outside. The warmth of such a day allows the polish to glaze up a bit(it never really dries) and makes it easier to remove, but it is a polish, not a wax, you still must apply a coat of top wax to seal off the polish to maintain the shine.
It works well on trim and plastics in my experience and it has protected my stripes thus far(nearly 5 months now). As for the question of using them on matte stripes, apply a small amount of ICE on a section of stripe thatisn't readily visible(like under the chin or under the rear spoiler), if you're satisfied, do the rest of the stripes, if not, stop right there. Ask a friend or co-worker if they have some ICE on hand, that way you won't have to purchase any if it doesn't give you the results you want.
If you're worried about the matte stripes becoming "shiny", trust me, the contaminants and pollution in the air will "grease" it up and without some sort of protection the spots will become stains that won't remove. I had an issue with the stripes getting spots about a month or so after installing them, was able to remove the stains and that's when I starting using the ICE on them, so far, no issues.

I have flat black stripes on mine. The body shop that did them told me to never wax them. You will add a little bit of a shine. I would stay away from waxing yours.
