Default RE: Which Radar detector should I buy?

Living in Cincinnati where both Valentine and Passport are headquartered, they compete aggressively. You look at one radar test and they say Passport is the best. Look at another test and Valentine wins. Truth told, both are about the best you can buy. The new X50 Passport does have POP capability. You can also upgrade the Passport. If you live around here, you can even take an old Passport in and get a discount on a new one.

My recommendation is to buy whicever is cheapest.

I do disagree with Mike Valentine (who used to work for Escort) that you can't make a good wireless dectector. I have the wireless Passport in my 2nd car. It works very well. It's sensitivity isn't as good as my X50, but it is mighty close.

i have a Passport 8500X50 and it works great. Also before you waste your money on a jammer I looked into them before I bought my X50 and a site that compares them and is run by an ex cop says they really don't work or atleast hardly at all. One good site to check out is www.speedzones.com another is www.radarbusters.com

Yep, there are one or two that work on X and K band, but they are illegal as they constantly transmit. So far nothing can jam Ka. Lasers however can be jammed! I'm saving for some Blinder M20s.

I checked out the Passport 8500/X50. Why is there a difference in prince from a Blue display to Red?

that was my question too about the difference in price in the red and the blue...i went ahead and bought the passport 8500 X50 Red...i have had it since the day after i got my car in early-november and havent got pulled over yet. I live in houston where the cops just hang out and shoot people with radar guns all day...i always pick them up way before i ever get close to them

I know it sounds stupid but the only reason is that red LED's are industry standard and are cheaper than the blue.

do not buy any radar detecter that claims it can "scramble" the signal, they are a scam, you may have heard of the "phantom" it does NOT work, anyways "active" radar jammers are illeagal and are a felony to use.

The best price I can find for the 8500/X50 is $299.95 ( Red ). Has anyone seen it for less?
