Default sigh damn v6

so i have been throwing the idea around about laying off the exterior and leaning toward the guts (engine)
i used to race with my trans am before i destroyed it and i want to get the mustang race worthy
but my question is .. is it worth all teh customizing since its only a v6
that may be a completely retarded question but how would i fair up against a v8 with slight modifications

sorry new to v6
ignore me if this is a stupid thread
any comments are appriciated
thanks

Powerhouse turbos seem to be the magic F/I on the 4.0.
A couple guys in the V6 forums are running in the 10s with powerhouse's setup and a lot of other work.

Yep, turbos work great on the 4.0. That motor has more potential than most of us realise. I like to see a version with quad cams of that mill.

There should be more emphasis on A LOT of other work.

Well, things like clutch and that 7.5 rear axle has to go. Maybe the tranny (manual), not as strong as the V8. Also maybe one piece, lighterdrive shaft souds like a good idea.

Check the 4.0 forum. Lot's of ideas and cautions there. You will see that yes, you can compete with V8's but you need to be smart. The stock driveshaft, for instance, has a tendency to explode in high performance situations...

yeah as soon as you hit 120 the driveshaft on the 4.0's, not sure about the 4.6's, just shakes then BOOM, bye bye drive shaft. you can make the 4.0 fast tho, just beware if u get the 4.0 get ready for alot of **** from some of the v8 guys. many of them are cool as hell and very helpfull but then you get quite a few bad apples.

Not a stupid thread. Since you already have your car, then you should consider modifying it for improved performance. With a tune, intake, driveshaft, gears, t-lock and drag radials, my 4.0L V6 has run a best so far of 14.5xx (with a temp in themid-80's). I've seen 2V GT's and S197 GT's run slower than that at the track (granted, they needed a SERIOUS driver mod). A lightly modified 4.0L V6 can skoot (and then there's the option for force induction!).

Regardless of engine, the S197 platform is a great starting point to build your daily driver into a fun track car (written that way cuz I don't promote street racing). Most suspension mods for the GT will work on our V6, and the aftermarket is responding well. This whole V6 versus GT debate is a waste. At the track, nearly everyone is cool because they are all racing enthusiasts. At a car forum, all of the members SHOULD be cool to each other cuz we share a common bond - our love for Mustangs.
