Help! Come laugh at the newbie that messed up something simple (me)
I purchased the C&L Intake and Tune from brenspeed. I'm a complete noobie when it comes to this stuff, but figured I could do the install without much problems, and I did - except for one mistake, that I hope can be fixed. (With all of your help)
When I was following the instructions to install the air meter-sensing element into the new aluminum MAF housing from the kit, I overtightened one of the screws and the screw-head popped off. When I took the air meter out, the screw that is in there is nearly flush with the MAF housing, so I can't just use a pair of pliers to remove it and use a different screw.
How do I fix this? Or am I screwed and I need to call brenspeed for another MAF housing piece? Can I use one screw to hold that in place until I get that fixed, or do I just need to be car-less until it is fixed?
Yes, it is embarasing to be this bad with cars...
Thanks guys
Edit: Added a picture, I circled where the screw broke off.

pictures please...and don't worry about it, one of the best ways of learning is making mistakes.
For instance, I once tried to repla ce the water pump on my old 66 mustang all by myself, even though my dad told me to wait until he got home because the bolts were probably siezed. Lol, he was right and I broke not one but both of the bolts off, retapping threads in a cast iron block was not fun. that's alright my dad taught me all kindsof new words that night

Ouch. Pics please.
Broke off in aluminum.
Tough. Seems like it is replacement time.
Be a little easier on the little screws torque wise
next time.

Too small for a screw extractor.
The screw is probably Stainless Steel to boot.
I would fixture it up in a mill and use an endmill
to remove the offending fastner one chip at a time.
But one has to have access to a machine shop.
Dont recommend drilling hard stainless thats in
soft aluminum by hand. Can be done. Maybe a
small left handed drill bit?

Just a thought, but maybe you could duck tape it on to hold it until you a) have time to have a machine shop fix it as 157db says or b) get a new part...but one screw may not hold it on well for long even with the tape and you might wind up squaring off the threads on the other one.

Yikes!!!.....You are not the first to do this, trust me. What about a very sharp tipped awl...gently tap around the outside in an unscrewing direction?? Just need a few threads so you can grab it......
Sorry to see it, but you will get through.....The improvement will be worth the grief!!

hey if you can't get it out call brennspeed and have them overnight it. Or perhaps you can take it to a local shop and see if they'll drill it out.
Don't be to hard on yourself. Everything is Fixable!

It's fixable but you need a small drill bit (needle size) and a left turn tap to extract the remainingbolt thread trough the hole you just drilled.
Those tools are hard to find and a pro need to do it for you anyway. So , the point is almost moot.
You're in for that replacement part.
Good luck...
