RE: What is 3.55 ratio limited slip axle
3.55 is the gear ratio of the rear differential ring and pinion. Limited Slip the unit inside the diff and is what makes both wheels turn at the same time. This is something you want.

2005-2006, Manual Mustangs came stock with the 3.55 rear end.
2007-2008, 3.55 rear end is optional, 3.31 is standard.
All S197 V6's come with a 3.31 non-limited slip rear end. All S197 automatic GT's come with a 3.31 with limited slip.
Both rear ends, on both automatic and manual Mustangs are limited slip. In fact I'm pretty sure all V8 Mustangs since the late 70's have had limited slip.
3.31 gearing is slightly better for mileage, 3.55 gears are slighly better for acceleration.

just walk to the rear of the car, drop down and peak at the back of the rear differential. The factory or any aftermarket mechanics should have the # written on a piece of paper attached to the back of it.
the 3.55 was a $100 upgrade but I think it's now (on 2008's) part of a more expensive option package.

For every 3.55 spins of the driveshaft, the wheels spin once.
A limited slip is designed to lock the rear axle and distribute power evenly between the left and right wheel under heavy loads.
