What are the largest wheel spacers you can resonably use on a v6 with gt wheels?
The GT and v6 have slightly different offsets, but over the model revisions of the S197 I'm not sure if this is still true. I want to put on a set of large wheel spacers on my SC v6 PP (which complicates the issue further) and use stock GT wheels. The reason for this is because I want the apperance of a wider track which I know looks bettter.
The stock wheels have a huge 40mm offset.
I'm looking into going with 2cm+ spacers, is this fine? If so how big can I go? How big will look good?

the pony package stangs come with GT 17inch wheels so im not sure on the difference, all ive heard was spacers are not safe, if you go with some new wheels with a 36mm offset they come all the way out to the fender and if you lower the car it looks even better, i know the look you want i was the same way before the new stance of my fr500's, save those extra bucks and follow my list.

Why would you use spacers? That just is not safe. If you want a wider track by a wider wheel. I went from 17x8 to 17x9 wheels and that one inch made a huge difference in appearance. Also wider tires will give you a wider track. Bottom line if you have to use a spacer for a particular wheel, the wheel is the wrong application for your vehicle.

A customer of mine with a 69 bracket racer Firebird uses 1/2 inch spacers with ARP studs and clocks in the 10s.
He didn't snap them yet.
I don't know if he has a trick or not, but I figure I state it.
Since I don't know too much about drag racing, I hardly have an opinion on that one.

Thought so.
36mm offset for 16s on a V6 and 45mm for 17s on a pony (still a V6).
I got 17"45mm offsets on my V6 that came with 16"36mm offsets.
Talkin S197s here exclusivly. Never heard of the need for wheel spacers.
Get the correct rims and spacers are not needed. Save the cash, hassle
and possability of a failure at 120MPH.[:@]

All the rims interchangable except the stock 16"ers on a GT with GT brakes?

He wants a spacer because helikes the wheels flush with the body.
I screwed up when I got my set. They're 20x8.5 and should have gone 20x10 in the back.

Would not flush tires rub the wheel well lip during
suspension bottoming in the rear? Or do you have to
have the so undesirable gap to allow flush rear tires
to allow for wheel well lip clearance? Not getting
the flush part. Mine sit in and fit up inside the wheel
well during rear suspension travel. They also minimise
the rock chipsand dirt on the rear bumper sides.

There are no lips on our cars budd.
The rear quarters ouside skin overlaps the outer wheel housing. Like the bottom of the door if you will, so that makes3 layers of sheet metal (1/8 thick roughly). Ford scored in my book on that one, the old BOSS 302s had those rolled edges for the trans-am tires.
The fenders have a small edge (about a 1/4).
Tires in the back can be pretty flush with the sheet metal without rubbing.
