500 rpm is just a bit low. Then again, if you have a radical engine, all bets are off.
Maye you should start with the idle problem and it might lead to the solution for the other problem.

Good luck.

Dex, If its not the IAC (idle air control) valve, it could also be the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) valve. I used to have that same problem on one of my other cars. STS is a rear turbo right? Its possible that the rear turbo could be messing with the EGR valve somehow, which causes the car to basically die. Once you get it under throttle its ok, but at a light it wants to either go or die...good luck with it.

MAF is ok. I have a MAFia on there but that doesnt effect anything at idle. I'll look into the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) valve. Guess I can start with the TPS and throttle body and go from there.

I read the V8's dont have the EGR valve. I think it may also be the 02 sensors

you say that its getting worse, sounds like a fuel to air mix problem. One way to test this is to clear the KAM keep alive memery. To do this is unplug the battery for a couple miniutes and then start it up. The KAM will be erased and the compture will go back to the origainal setting for fuel and air that you have in the RAM. IF it works better you may have a problem with the o2 sensors and check them.

I was having the same exact problem in my car. Our throttle bodies are different, but changing out the throttle body made a huge difference. I would definatly try changing that thing and I bet 90% of your problem would be fixed. The bogging down to 500 rpm and then stalling completely. Mine wouldn't even start for a good 4-5 min after it stalled either. It is competely fixed now.
