Default Up & Over stripe lesson :-(

Dropped round to the local Bodyshop to get an estimate for the eradication of the cut lines leftover from my stripes (I removed them and found that the installers had cut through the clearcoat in a number of places, including one catastrophic line on the hood where they apparently trimmed 3 timesbefore being happy [:@]).

They said they'd try heating [?] the clearcoat first to see if it would resettle (never heard of that but this shop does some awesome work, so I trust them), failing that they'd attempt buff them out, failing that they'd re-clear. Damaged areas aremainly the Hood, trunk lid and Rear spoiler. Worst case is $500 for the re-clear, less if one of the former attempts does the job.
Also going to have them apply the clear-bra stuff (Chip Guard?) to the front end @ $125

My original gut instinct that up & overs weren't for me has sadly proven to be accurate -We live and learn

that sucks, i'd go back to where you had them put on and hand them the bill for the repairs

I would except for a disclaimer-esque comment at the time of install which went something like "We have to trim strips whilst on the car, everybody does, but we'll obviously try to minimise it as much as humanly possible. Be aware that some faint lines might be visible if you take the stripes off"
I did wonder about it at that point but, well, sometimes you have to trust. No more though [8D]

Sorry to hear about it. I'd heard from somewhere else on this forum that this might be the case when you had someone install vinyl stripes for you (that they'd trim them with an exacto knife into your clearcoat). That's all it took to push me over the indecision and decide once and for all that I wasn't getting stripes.

Hopefully some of the cheaper methods will work out on your car and it won't be too much to fix everything.

I second that. Vinyls aren't supposed to do that. It's the application technique that your guys applied to installing the stripes that made the damages.

It happens. Last thing I want to do is get into it with them when I know I'm going to get absolutely nothing from it.

The shop who did them are the guys who apply decals/stripes for the two local Ford dealerships, that's why I went there. I guess all the Striped Mustangs in my area have been mutilated in the same way

Only $125 for the clear bra? that is a pretty good deal if they are any good at installing it. I just got the clear bra on my hood, fenders, lower fascia, and around wheel wells and it is awesome!! I have seen some crappy installs in the past... Try and see some of their work first with the clear bra.

Yea, they had a couple of new cars there which had the Bra installed for a dealership. Could even tell it was on until you searched for the edge. Got to be better than fighting stone chips right?

Just having the front done, hadn't thought about the wheel well areas.... hmmmmmmm......
