Bad to change the oil frequently?
Is it bad to change the oil too frequently?
My Stang is not my DD, but I average ~30-40 miles a week in the city - it's 9 months old now w/2500 miles, and I've been getting the oil changed religiously every 3 months at the dealership w/Motorcraft oil & filter. I notice that the oil still looks pretty new when it's drained out.
I guess I'm really wondering if it's bad for the engine to change the oil before it has time to really "break in"?

Not the "Extensive Idling and/or Low Speed Driving" section - that says 3 months or 3k miles ...

the owners manual say ever 6 months or 5k miles.

I read that changing your oil filter is more important and changing the oil (if you do one you should do the other) more often than necessary will just cost more and IMO is not necessary. I change mine 2x a yr and put anywhere from 1500 to 2000 miles a year on the car. I change it in Oct/Nov and again in May with full syn Mobil one and motorcraft, mobil one, or K&N HP oil filter each time. Oil looks great and she is running fine.

...If you are putting 3000 miles on your car in one year, I would wait the one year to change the oil. Oil does not og bad.

And since I put between 2,000 and 2,500 miles per month on my Stang (90% highway), I wouldn't be in your situation.

So ... moisture gets into/stays in the oil? Changing the oil more frequently (and thus getting rid of the moisture/water more frequently too) would be better then?

I'd typically agree but it sounds like you're NOT driving enough per trip to burn off any moisture in the engine and THAT will allow corrosion products and other bad "stuff" to collect. Even with that, I'd still change the oil every 6 months instead of 3 months. But if it gives you peace of mind, do it at 3. It won't hurt the engine to do it that frequently (unless someone screws up...).
