I don't get it. What's so bad about our rear axles?

RE: I don't get it. What's so bad about our rear axles?
That's possibly true, i can see why, it's a specialised model. Now, what would be really interesting is to get a Mexican GTI and the German R32 next to eachother. I guarantee you that you'd take 5 minutes to find like 50 points between them in terms of build & materialquality.
My wife has a new Golf and compared to the one she had in Europe, it's cheapass !
OK, it was cheaper than a Euro one, but there it is, built to a price, not to a standard and that is the exact point.

What can you get for $25k MRSP(including taxes)? Not much, don't get confused with the "last years model, can't shift them for ****" pricescurrently circulatingLOL Of course though,in principle you're right, the purchase taxes in Europe hike the prices considerably. Then again, wages, punch for punch, in Europe are higher.
Let's not forget that many so-called import cars (BMW, Mercs, VW, Audi) aren't imports at all, they are cheaper versions made locally in the USA or worse, Mexico. you'd think they're the same, but believe me, they absolutely are not. That's funny as well, Americans looking down their noses at Imports when many of them are being made by the man standing next to them
I'm from Europe and I'm not afraid to say that Europeans don't make a car worth a sh#t for 25K. Americans do

All right, 08 GTStang $27 grands+ taxes in Orlando.
Definitly true. And my 01 F150 was made in Canada.
It's all mixed up in the US. Just about every car sold here has a plan in the States.
I'm just tired of Europeans bashing the US, that's all. And I hate freaking snobs! They bring squat, to the table.

Did you guys see the episode where Clarkson took the Z06 from a dead stop to 170mph in 5th gear??? He got a boner when he did that too. Rode the clutch to get it going then all the way to 170. It was pretty cool. Found it on youtube in another language, don't feel like searching for the english version but I'm sure it's out there:

Ah, here it is. Starting thinking about it and had to watch it again. He also outran igniting gas. LOL! From all the episodes I've seen, he pretty much adores the Z06.

What it all comes down to... The same thing that influenced my purchasing decision when I went looking for the best sports car under 40k. Like Clarkson said, he would rather have "bird flu" than drive the Z06 everyday. We have the worst roads here in america, where a strong live-axle car really shines.
The Mustang has back seats, a huge trunk (for a sports car). I can take it on trips for gods sake. I can get in my 'stang everyday and drive it ANYWHERE. The aftermarket is HUGE for this car. I can mod till my hearts content. There is nothing like it. And when the Chebby Camaro is released in 09' I'm sure there will be a TON of comparos between Ford and Chevy. The aftermarket willhave to scramble to r&d upgrades for that car. Even though it will have an LS2 engine, the car will be different so nothing will fit without making new parts. Our aftermarket will be even bigger than it is now. Tunes will be better, parts will be better, the 5.4 is already being supercharged and developed in the aftermarket. I know I made the right decision with my car. Maybe someday, I'll have enough disposable income to think that a Z06 or Dodge Viper or maybe even a high end Porsche or BMW M5/6 are a smart choice in a daily driver sports car. But right here, right now, the Mustang was the right choice. Christ, my car note is $296 a month and insurance $125!!!!

It is true that the solid rear axle in stock form may not handle fast turns as well as the IRS, but I consider that part of the Mustang's charm. The stock s197 is just about the only remaining example of what many consider a golden age of automobiles: powerful engine in front, rear wheel drive, simple mechanical manual transmission components, and a low price. The solid rear axle is NOT bad, it is drag race proven, it can be modified to improve handling, it is easy to swap gearing on, and it keeps the price of the car down. I actually still run the skinny stock tires and rear suspension, the hopping, squirrelly rear end makes the car more fun to drive for me. Maybe I'm just crazy.

It IS fun. That's when one of those euro guys start drifting around a track they get huge boners. Lol! The japanese knew what was fun to do and fun to watch 30 years ago when drifting was born.
