Default What did you feel in your hands as you turned spark plug out?

So I wanted to remove, maybe clean, but most importantly use antiseize and put my plugs back in.

But on the first plug, after letting PBblaster sit for 3 hours, the plug started turning out immediately, but it quickly became harder to turn. Not good. So I stopped, put in a little more PBblaster, and turned the plug slightly back into the hole, and out again. Let it sit.

Again, I came back and it moved a little but then got harder. I can swear it wanted to break. I finally just re-torqued it and said forget it.

So does this sound familiar and OK for those of you that have done it? Bad? If it breaks will EZ-out remove it? I know EZ out worked for one guy but not sure if he got lucky.

Thanks.

And no, I wont use lock-tite when I reinsert them.

The plug get's carbon build up on the lower part of the threads, where they are in the chamber. There's not much you can do about it except grit your teeth and wind them out.

remember the post form shaners90lxhatch if you just keep turning then you'll break the plug and have to remove the cylinder head

keep spraying the penetrating oil and letting it soak
and go back and forth with the plugs

Yeah search isn't giving any results at all, must be broken.... I'll look info on other sites though. Just wondering if anyone here had any personal experiences to talk about.

this is an excerpt from his post
Have your spark plugs removed somewhat often and do NOT drive your mustang like a grandmother. The 3v design has a problem with the unique style of spark plug that is required - it likes to break off in the cylinder head. This is an ongoing problem with the 5.4 3v in the trucks and the 4.6 3v is absolutely no different in design operation. The difference in use is what makes this less common in the Mustang. You have a 50% chance of this being minor enough to address without cylinder head removal (thousand dollar + job) but more than likely it will require more than the dealer and a special tool recently designed by Rotunda to remove it. Just like with the oil quality thing, ask a 5.4 3v truck owner. The plugs break off in the head because the center portion of the plug is extended and unusually exposed to the combustion event. This causes carbon to build up between the plug and the head effectively fusing the two together.

I don't post on here too often, but this is one of those times where I feel the need to. That was one of the funniest threads I've ever read, when he used lock-tite on the oil drain plug. I was just glad everything worked out for him. And to give credit where credit is due, he took the beating from everyone pretty well and can even laugh at himself now. Keep turning those wrenches buddy!
