Hey there-

I've got a 05 GT. Im having 4.10s installed. The shop I use is asking for $350 to install the gears (I purchased them). They, however, don't handle tuning and are referring me to another shop which will tune the car and dyno for $450.00

Am I better off buying a tuner online and doing the program myself or should I allow the other shop to handle it? Is their price reasonable?

The price sounds right to me. But make sure they have experience in installing gears.

You're going to need a tuner later anyway. So, I say buy a tuner online to recalibrate your speedo because a dyno tune is not worth it with a few mods. Maybe later when you add more mods.

The custom dyno tune sounds right, may vary a little place to place. The gear install seems a little high though. I got my 4.10s installed for $270.

I had 4.10s installed for $550 - included FRPP grears, rebuild kit, fluids and labor. So, if the $350 includes rebuild kit and fluids...its a fair price. I have a tuner but the shop I went to basically told me they could reset the computer for an additional $50. Directing you to another place that charges $450 - wow thats high, even if it includes a custom dyno tune (which you don't need just for gears). Just get your own tuner from Brenspeed.

+1 to all the advice, dont get a dyno tune now get the brenspeed tune till you get FI or nitros or something that really changes your HP alot.
