Most all of the aftermarket rear end oils say you don't need friction modifier - but you're better off putting it in. It doesn't do anything for whine, but it will keep the rear end from making clunking noises when making slow turns. Just put it in, get the Ford stuff.

You need friction modifier, end of story. I've seen two companies say their gear oil needs no modifier, including mobil 1, and the drivers ended up with whining gears, fixed with modifier. Use modifier, even with RP.

They claim 'no modifier needed' because they want you to think its superior and will save you money. They're right that no modifier is needed when put into a lightly driven weak car that sees only highway miles. Thats not us.

Do yourself a favor and go with Redline Oil over the RP. It is a far superior oil and you DO NOT need the friction modifier with it. 75w140 is correct and I always buy one more quart than is needed.

Also friction modifier does absolutely NOTHING to solve gear whine all the friction modifier does is prevent the LS clutch packs from grabbing and chattering when going around corner and such.
