S197 V8 sound

RE: S197 V8 sound
It's just a sound that occurs when decelerating in gear (in a manual). Every car I've ever had does it - 4 cylinders do it as well. I think your actual muffler set-up determines whether you hear it or not.
As far as the physical reason behind the sound - couldn't tell you. Just enjoy it!

RE: S197 V8 sound
its due to the influx of colder air meeting the higher pressure heated air coming out of the muffler. Other cars dont do it mostly due to the fact that the muffler is located well before the axle and also you cant forget the fact that i am just writing out of my @ss and have no clue what i am talking about...
but seriously our cars sound good i like the burbly package

Backpressure eh? Interesting. I notice with my Loudmouths that its a nice gurgle. I love it.
But yes, about the S197 sound: Its horrible. Almost ricey. And the positioning of the mufflers has nothing to do with it. Its the engine, the cams, etc that make it sound like it does.
I cant stand around 2K rpms in 4th gear I sound like a honda buzzing down the street.
But every other time it sounds scary mean.

I don't know exactly what makes the sound, but I remember reading in a Ford ad for the Mustang that the V8 and V6 engines were specially tuned by the engineers for hundreds(?) of hours to make the best sound that they can make.
