Where to connect fuel and oil pressure sending units???
Guys,
Just bought gauges (Boost, Fuel and Oil Pressure) foran off season project...
Boost comes with a vacuum line and tee which I believe taps into the vacuum line of the supercharger...
Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure electric sending units are a question...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanx, Dave

RE: Where to connect fuel and oil pressure sending units???
The fuel pressure sending unit attaches to the fuel rail
and the oil pressure sending unit attaches to the oil gallery.
IMHO dont hate but....
Dont like them, just another item to break off and cause
troubles. They are vibration prone. Once you get the Ts
and nippples needed for installation, the sending units are
stuck really far out there and tend to snap off at the worst
possable moment. Good luck.
Any Saleen SC owners who could post pics of how Saleen
does it with success and longevity?

RE: Where to connect fuel and oil pressure sending units???
I have a Saleen SC and also have both oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges and have never had problems with the sending units, not just on this car but any. I prefer the electrical gauges to the mechanical because I don't want to pump fluids in the passenger compartment and want the gauges close.
For the fuel sending unit, there isn't a convenient place to plug the snding unit in. MotoBlue makes an adapter that raises the stock fuel sending unit up about 3/4" or so and gives you 2 taps of which I scewed my sending unit in 1 of them.
For the oil pressure, I replaced the stock sending unit with the one for my gauge. The wire that was going to the computer (if I remember right) I grounded. The stock oil pressure gauge and sending unit are not really what they appear, the sending unit is a switch. I believe it activates at around 5psi, once that switch turns on, your gauge just reads in the middle. Notice it never changes as the RPMs change? A real gauge would go down at idle and read higher at higher RPMs. Grounding that wire to the computer makes your factory oil pressure gauge always read in the middle. -Joe

So your PCM never knows that there is an oil pressure problem
and your guage does not light up red when there is no oil pressure?
Better keep one eye glued to that aftermarket oil pressure guage.

You'll need an adapter to attach the fuel pressure gauge. I had mine T'd into the rubber fuel line that came with my whipple, but I didn't like having that big ugly sending unit sitting there. I now use my aeroforce gauge to monitor fuel pressure.

You gotta be kidding me right? Are you saying that you rely on that factory gauge? You do realize it is nothing more than an idiot light right? It is the exact same thing as the red light on the dash that says "OIL". If that light comes on, you already have problems! I'll know WAY before that... -Joe

and basically all show and no function but at least it has the idiot
(warning) light function and turns red when there is less than 5 PSI
oil pressure. Grounding your stock sender wire essentially looses
the red warning indicator. Like I said, you better keep one eye on
that aftermarket guage. Ever see those big red no oil pressure
lights in race cars that have guages also? Its your ride and do as
you will but dont advise others on your lackluster way of doing it.
