Default RE: radar detectors???

Well, I like to keep mine more discreet.

Whistler Fusion radar detector. Fits right into my gauge pod.

With instand on Radar and Laser speed guns, whatis the piont. I have not had one in 20 years. No tickets and I drive like a bat out of hell sometimes.I speed most of the time, as do most drivers. Hell doing 60 in a 55 is speeding. And I know police that WILL pull you over for it.

I have the passport 8055 x50 and it works very well. A radar detector will not save you from every ticket. However, it will save you from some. If it saves you from one, it's worth it due to the large increase in insurance premiums. Just be smart...use bait. And there are instant on radar guns, but if you pay attention and there is traffic, a good detector will alert you to the radar presence each time it is used in front of you (behind you). But again, it is in no way failsafe. As for laser detectors, they have to be used from a fixed position, and due to geometry, the gun pretty much has to be in line with you. So, pay attention, especially on overpasses, and you can generally spot a slightly hidden car.

Because it will pick up the cars in front of you that are being targeted with instant on and alert you that something is happening before you even get there.

Get a good one because they do work. I would only get a valentine 1 or an escort passport. Nothing cordless for sure. The thing is if you drive like a moron and are weaving in and out of traffic you will be caught radar detector or not. Same if you drive like a moron with no other cars on the road. If the officer has a gun and thier is no one else to catch your radar will not go off in time and you will get the ticket. On the other hand if you are a casual speeder and are keeping up with traffic and not drawing extra attention they will save your behind and are well worth the money.

Default RE: radar detectors???

2 months into getting my new GT, I got a ticket for doing 40 in a 35. He picked ME out of about 5 cars driving around me, no doubt because I was in the mustang. I tried to argue my way out of it due to my having a perfectly clean driving record for the first time in years but he wouldn't hear it.

I was so totally pissed off that I pulled into the next Best Buy I could find and bought my detector that day. I also took the defensive driving course and had that freaking ticket wiped off my record. I don't want another one.

It's been 6 months now and I now know where HE sits and all the other ones. I haven't had a ticket since. Money well spent.

My Passport 9500 was expensive but has a "speed sensitive" feature. It NEVER falses. If it goes off you can better damn well bet there is a cop with radar around. Sometimes it will pop off with an X-band alert, but I usually just ignore those. I get hit with K and KA ALL THE TIME. I've never been hit with laser yet. Thats funny because that is what I thought they were using the most now. I live in TX and am supposed to have a front license plate but never put mine on. Haven't been hassled about it and I think that is what they use as the target for laser. May be helping me...

+1 I'm in texas and have no front license plate. I usually make sure Im doing the speed limit all of the time but I'm thinking about buying one. I just dont know if cops hassle those that are seen with them in their cars. Ive also seen something called a blinder or something that is installed internally. Anyone know if those work?
