Ducktail Idea (photoshop)

RE: Ducktail Idea (photoshop)
In all honesty I think it would be cheaper and easier to have a shop just alter your decklid into the middle-ducktail style, rather than try to alter a spoiler. Might look better too.

Ok time and money is not an issue.
So assuming a look like this has to be done with metal, where do I get the metal?
I don't think I can just cut part of a Z4 trunk lid off:
- It's a smaller car?
- Where am I going to get part of the trunk and fenders of a Z4?
Can somebody reccomend a starting metal piece that a shop could work with?
Or is there a way to get some metal from Home Depot and begin to form this thing?
Just throw yur best ideas out...

You shouldn't have to worry about providing materials at all, except for maybe the donor trunk lid if you go that route. A good custom fab shop with a good metalworker can do anything. If you provide a donor trunk lid, they would most likely cut off the original spoiler and graft pieces into it, shpaed to fit with the original lines and weld it into the stang lid. A good custom shop will have all necessary materials so that would be no concern to you. If they build one from scratch, again, they will have the materials. If you want to have it done somewhere that asks you to provide sheetmetal or anything other than funds sufficient to cover the customization...run away from there, run far, run fast.
Just to be clear, your run-of-the-mill body shops like maaco, etc. do not do this type of work. The key word is custom.
Oh, and to get Z4 donor pieces, try E-bay, try google, try your local yellow pages for salvage yards specializing in imports.

No one has even done a seamless ductail yet.(like CDC but noseams).I've thought of doing this and it would bedone in metalbut you're talking a ton of fab work; the qtr panel corners alone would be quite time consuming. It would be quite trick and cool being seamless though most folks won't notice the wonder of it. Fiberglass is a no no and integrating an existing product to the steel body for a seamless solution will not fly. The Z4 design IMO has no place here with the mustang; it is beautiful on the Z4 but it is subtle and flows with theoverall rear deck design. Being creative is a wonderful thing and I honestly don't mean to be discouraging but this whole topic and the styling direction here is very very bad IMHO.

Try someone like a surfboard shaper, they work with foam and fiberglass all day long, they might be able to help.

Assuming I already have the spoiler (which I do) you think I could keep a project like this under 1,000$?
