got in an accident
so where do i go to get a new bumper, hood, and left fender? They are all mangled up and the left headlight is destroyed. Guy hit his brakes, i tried to swerve, but didnt quite miss him by enough. Im probably gonne be at fault for the insurance so thats bound to skyrocket. Im trying to buy the parts have them painted and put htem on myself so I can hopefully save some money. Any tips/ideas?

3 years of slightly higher insurance cost is still cheaper than trying to fix the car yourself. That and you are forgetting about fixing the other guys car. Trust me, let insurance deal with it. That's why you have it.
I got into a MINOR fender bender. Cost to fix mine was $1500. I only paid my deductible of $250. Insurance covered the rest. Accident was deemed "mutual negligence" meaning both at fault. My insurance went up 3% ($100 a year) Hmm... $300 over three years + $250 deductable ($550) vs $1,500...

i guess ill just let a professional worry about it. Adjustor is coming on friday so ill see what im working with then. Plus the brakes make a horrific noise when i used them so ill mention that to the adjustor. Ive got a 500 dollar deductible so thats all ill pay for the car to be fixed right? Obviously my rates will skyrocket but whatever. I hate insurance, you gotta pay every month then pay when you need something fixed.

+1.. I would let the insurance deal with it, thats why you pay for insurance (when it comes to insurance, fault is almost irrelivent or else why bother). Plus maybe you have access to all the tools but what if you need frame work? Alot of little stuff can break, and what looks simple might not be. Atleast if the insurance pays, and a shop does the work you have someone elses to blame if the work dosent come out perfect. The other way around you can only be mad at yourself everytime you see a little imperfection or the suspension makes a funky noise.

RE: got in an accident
good point guys, how can i make sure they give me the money it would cost if i needed to replace the brakes? I mean some jag-off USAA rep isnt a ceritfied brake expert. Will they cover things even as whoever does the repairs finds them?

RE: got in an accident
yes your insurance is good for making your car back into the condition it was in before the accident. You'll probably have repair shop work for the brakesin addition to the body shop work. I too think you should turn it into the insurance and let them take the financial hit. It sounds like it's definitely worth a higher premium for a while to do it because it sounds like afairly significant amount in damage.
I'm sorry about the accident...really sucks. Here's to hoping you can get it fixed QUICKLY!
