Ford power steering pumps have always been known to "whine." I have a 1985 F150 that has "whined" since day 1 and it still works fine.

Mine is also doing it, just happened to hear it the other day. But like you I never seemed to hear it previously.

All ford vehicles do that (at least my parents cars 2005 Escape, 2006 Explorer, and 2006 Mustang), and if you turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction is gets really loud and it might be louder when it is cold out.

guys it's in the manual that the power steering will whine during hard turns. that's why it says in the manual to not have the steering wheel fully turned for more than a few seconds and do not exceed 5mph with the steering wheel fully turned.

i forget what page it's on, but it's in there.
