The future of tires?

RE: The future of tires?
looks like it works like the tires on the moon rover. wern't they made of wire?
*edit*
The wheels consisted of a spun aluminum hub and a 32 inch diameter, 9 inch wide tire made of zinc coated woven 0.033 inch diameter steel strands attached to the rim and discs of formed aluminum. Titanium chevrons covered 50 percent of the contact area to provide traction. Inside the tire was a 25.5 inch diameter bump stop frame to protect the hub. Dust guards were mounted above the wheels.

Like the idea but they look like hell. I watched a youtube vid were they rolled over a land mine and the tire still looked semi functional. I was impressed, but it doesnt take much for me. It kinda reminded me of the lunar rover tires

i'm all for advances in technology, especially green friendly ones (i know, ironic coming from a gas guzzler like me), but why do aesthetic concerns always seem to go right out the window? not that i'd ever trade in the stang, ever, but take hybrids for example, like the prius. if it wasn't so damn ugly looking, maybe more folks would be interested.
