Default Costum exhaust or Bolt on Exhaust?

What would be better over all , I am thinking about taking my car to Rainbow Mufler here in Jacksonville frlorida. Or Ebaying an exhaust system (bolt on) . I was just wandering what are the pros and cons of both?

Depends how extensive you want to go. If you just want axlebacks or midpipe, of course just buy them online.

If you want a full system, such aslongtube headers to a midpipe and back to the axlebacks, then consider that those items purchased seperately can run you $1800-$2500 depending on quality. A shope may be able to do it for cheaper...

I do know that if I ever get longtubes then I will have a shop custom make them because I want them to clear the transmission so I can drop the tranny and work on the clutch whenever needed or replace the tranny if it ever breaks. Aftermarket longtubes mostly block the tranny removal.

But Ill shutup now.

I would go with custom if it's a good muffler shop.

I'll be different and say bolt-on exhaust. Why? Because the bolt on exhausts are (usually) going to be made out of stainless steel, the welds are going to be damn near perfect. Those two things mean the system wont rust out in two years. Bolt on will also be mandrel bent. Cant say it enough times. Mandrel bends flow better than crush bends. Mandrel benders are very expensive, so very few exhaust shops have them. Custom exhaust work will only have a 1yr warranty at best. Some bolt-ons, like Magnaflow, have a lifetime warranty.
Oh yeah, and you can get the satisfaction of putting it on yourself in about an hour.

And Flowmasters are crap when it comes to flow. They are designed for SOUND, nothing more. Any straight-through style muffler will give you more hp gain than a flowmaster.

If the best they got is Flowmasters, go mail order bolt-on. Brenspeed is running a sale right now - look in the sponsors section.
