What is the point in waxing rims?
The same reason you wax your paint. Most wheels now-a-days are clearcoated just like your paint. The clear on the wheels need to be waxed just like your paint.
Ok, I guess that makes sense, but has anyone ever seen the difference in unprotected/unwaxed wheels versus protected/waxed wheels? Can you really see a difference?

I am not trying to pour cold water on the idea. I'm just trying to learn the reason for some things people do to their cars. Thanks guys.

I highly recommend some sort of protection. Especially if you are in a snow zone. The salt will eat them up.

I have heard that road salt is very bad for chrome rims. It doesn't snow/sleet here often...maybe 5 to 7 days per year.

There is nothing wrong with waxing your rims...it nakes them look good and lasts a lot longer. I would aslo using a good clay bar on your ride too... I wash my truck as ofthen as I can, and clay my tuck about every 6 months and wax it evey 4 washes. Keeps it looking good and last a long time too

I ICE mine every 2 months along with the car. To the sceptic, it does make them look shinier after detailing, offers protection, and makes for a quicker clean up in between waxing. I wax chrome too and it doesn't rust easily. I also ICE the outside of the glass. Rain-X has nothing on an ICE'd windsheild.

Waxing the windows doesn't affect the visibility?

No. I actually helps fill in the little pits that are dangerous if you drive into the sun first thing in the morning. And, like Rain-X, it helps water to bead off during rain.

Yea, non protected rims become more difficult to keep clean. The paint becomes almost porous and eventually the clear coat & paint starts to flake away.
