What's so hard about the licensing. You still need a Predator to load the tune to the car, and the tuner can only tune a single car.

I think the tuners are way overpriced. They cost more new than my computer. And they are pretty much useless without adding a tuner's custom tune. Load the custom tune and pretty much just toss the piece in your trunk or closet. I'm not switching any parameters.

How would that prevent me from tuning all of my friend's cars thatalso have Predatorswithout putting up the investment for the full CMR software? People would be trying to open tuning businesses for a couple hundred dollars worth of investment.

If I had a little more time on my hands, I would try to reverse-engineer and write my own PC based OBDII software.
Open source and freely available of coarse.

You can use either the serial connector or the USB connector with the Predator - just depends on which one of the kits you purchased (or your tuner sent).
CMR software shouldn't be free - that would do way too much financial harm to the true Dyno tuners (like brenspeed etc).
You can purchase OBDII software for your PC. I can only imagine the legal nightmare you would face writing an open source version. Like I said before - what are you going to do when Johnny blows the motor on the brand new Mustang daddy just bought him?

Forgot to mention - when the Trinity hits the market you will be able to log data live, with no computer hooked up, and save the data to a flashcard if you want. Also providesmore monitoring capabilities.

I feel the exact opposite. I think it's pretty cool that I can just plug in this device and change the tune, axl ratio, rim/tire size, etc., plus data log. All that for afew hundred bucks seems pretty reasonable to me!
