Default MGW Shifter and Hurst Ball?

Probably a really easy question here....

I am planning to order an MGW short throw shifter, but I know they have two versions depending on if you want to keep the stock **** or go with an aftermarket like the hurst ball.

I want the hurst black ball with the MGW shifter. Do I order the 12MM or 3/8-16 thread version?

Wanted to be absolutely sure before I order and install!!

This from the MGW site.....

Shifter is available with your choice of shift **** shaft, one with the OEM 12 MM threads and one with 3/8-16 standard threads for most retro aftermarket plastic shift *****.
Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy the shifter.....

I cant help you there.. but i just posted this in another forum here about using a shiftball *** a kegorator tap handle
but these adapters change everything to a 16mm because that seems to be what most generic aftermarket shift handles are..
haha awesome idea! I got this shift **** off ebay.. love it!

but to get it to fit i had to order a adapter kit.. which i wonder if there is one thats the thread size of hte tap handle.. so we need to know that! i might be able to find out since i ordered both these kits, jsut gotta find where i put all the little adapters...

Thanks much!

Now I looked at the Hurst website and it looks like they have 'replacement' ***** in both 3/8-16 and 12mmx1.75 threads. Maybe it doesn't matter which MGW thread size I get after all.

The standard Hurst (and everyone else's) size is 3/8-16.

The 12mm is a Ford peculiar thing introduced with the S197. Not knowing any better I got the 12mm, which fits the stock ****. Later, when I wanted an aftermarket **** I had a devil of a time finding the one I wanted in the 12mm thread.

If I had to do it over again I'd get the 3/8 thread and an aftermarket **** right away.

Thanks Argonaut!

I just placed the order with MGW (went with 3/8-16) and also got the hurst black ball ordered. I hope it gets here before the weekend - even though I can't drive the car another 3-4 months at best!!

I have the MGW shifter, and I have three different Hurst *****. I bought these at assorted places and all of them came with an assortment of adapters or helicoils that will fit any shifter. You fish thru the adapters until you find one that fits the shifter stalk and screw it into the bottom of the handle and screw it onto the stalk. I have the Hurst pistol grip on my car now, my buddy did a custom paint job on it and I really like it.

I hate to say it but I just can't picture any other shifter in this car but the OEM one I've got in my car. It just doesn't look right to me.
