Drill it!! I did mine and had to bore out one hole to get it to fit right also. Don't stress too much about it. It will be covered anyway. The directions are spot on.

If it were me... I'd drill. I think it depends on whether or not you plan on removing it. If you're happy with the look and plan on keeping it for awhile I would say drill. If you're not sure and feel like you may go with another look then just use the tape.
