Looking for input on which tires to buy - 17"
its time to replace our stock pirelli's and the wife could really benefit from something a bit more sticky when the roads are wet. so, what im looking for is something better than stock - but also retaining a pretty long treadlife..... and priced fairly cheap. i know what im looking for kind of puts me in the "impossible" zone, but there has to be a few tires that come close to fitting the bill.
btw im not looking at changing the size, just stock 17's (unless there is another size i can use on the back which would give a very close to original diameter but give a little more width and still fit on the rim properly)

I would go 255 on the rear and 245 on the front, unless you are wanting full rotation, then just go 245/45/17 all the way around...in that size you should be able to get pretty decent tires since thats the stock size for a lot of cars...the only thing about going with a lower profile like that is that your wheel gap will be worse than the stock tires sincethe stockerswill be a little taller than the 245/45/17's

255/50/17 is stock size basically
onlinetires.com has a great selection.....

The nittos generally get good reviews, also the protenza is a good tire.

just to clarify......
a) i want a good balance of wet traction, longevity, and price
b) i dont want the overall diameter of the tire to be any less, but a wider footprint in the rear or all the way around would be nice
fwiw, i drive "spirited" but the wife doesnt and she drives the car more than i do

We are running the BF Goodrich KDW 2's on the GTO 255/40/17 and its the same width as our stock rims...they work very well for her car in all road conditions, but they don't have the best tread life though...its hard to get a good tire to do everything though like you mentioned above...

I'm not looking to hijack this thread but I have a very similar question. I was just got a good deal on a set of 17" chrome buillitts that I wiant to get tires for (I have the stock silver bullitts on now). The chromes will be on exclusively in summer, and I was wondering what a good cheap summer tire would be? I was thiking Kumho ecsta SPT or Hankook ventus HRII.
Also, what could I do size-wise on these 17X9 rims other than the normal 235 55 that may give it a different look?
Thanks all.

well I'm running 245/45/17 on my fronts and they are stock rims...you can run that size all the way around...and they do have KDW, but not KDW 2's...but like I said above its going to look a little weird since the car isn't lowered...
