I love the Hurst Shifter.......If you want you can go through all 5 gears with your elbow on the console, just by flicking your wrist. For the Price, You can't beat the Hurst.
Or if you have long fingers, say a Bass guitar player, you can change radio stations with the same elbow position as you shift with the other 2 fingers Matt's talking about.

I can flick my Hurst with a few fingers. It was stiff at first but loosened up a bit. Its nice now.

Just to be clear - the MGW shifter is not "smooth". Its what I would call "notchy". I hear that the Hurst is the same way. It clicks into gears in a very positive way. There is absolutely no doubt about the gear change, its actually kindof loud, you can hear it click from gear to gear. You can shift it with a flick of the wrist because the throw is so much shorter, not because it takes less effort. Not sure about the Hurst but the MGW is height adjustable so you can set it to the exact throw and height that suites your arm, hand and style. I highly recommend the Hurst or MGW over the stock unit, either way you can't go wrong.

so it requires more strength, but i can shift it with the flick of my wrist? im confused, are you saying it's a shorty shift or it's really easy?
1. The distance is shorter.
2. It requires a bit more pressure to move it than the stock shifter.
3. It lets you know you are in gear, click, clack = Sweet!
4. If this girl can do it, so can you.
