glad to hear change is coming in the bump sticks, which company is making them? do they have any idea how much bigger than stock they are going to go with em? from your previous stance im guessing they must be thinking big to sway your opinion.

and btw, when your a test mule like this do you get your cams for free?
I can't really say till there on the car and tests have been completed. Yes, being a mule has it's benefits and I'm paying about $200 out of pocket for them.

The downside to being a test mule is sometimes you lose or break more than the free parts you are getting so although I have done a lot of R&D for several companies, it's not always the 'best' deal...[:@] I would not recommend someone letting their car be an R&D car to get free parts. It's more because of the relationship you have with your builder/supplier and knowing they have your back when you break crap and need more parts down the road.

The truth is if you aren't going to go ***** out and break crap - then you aren't really a good candidate to R&D with. I's definitely not a 'money savings' deal at all. It seems like it - but it's not in the long run.

Yeah, I've gotten probably 20K in parts over the last couple years for this car but I've also had 3 built motors and 5 FI kits on the car...

Default RE: 360ci build

I have some friend's that need different things so I haven't decided if I'm going to sell it as a short block or in pieces. I'll decide next week.

Ok guys here are some shots of the Diamond Racing pistons. These pistons are Cali HP's. He has a .005 over amd should be around 327ci. Mine are the same but will be a .015 over. His block work is done. Just a balance job away from assembling this monster. The pistons have some nice features , one being the top of the piston deck. There is .300 thousandths from the top of the piston to the first ring land, as opposed to a Manley which is .225 thousandths. The first pic is the diamond piston next to the maley for comparison. The piston also has offset wrist pins to better position the piston in the bore , and also makes the piston quieter. The piston is teflon coated, which will allow for a .001 tighter bore as well. I have some more pics soon showing the build in progress.

Cali's build should be done next week so we'll have results of a 327ci build on this block and my 342ci build will begin when the pistons get here in a couple weeks. This is REALLY EXCITING cause No one has done a build like this with the 3V heads. Everyone who's done the big bore motors have used 4V set-ups. Are thinking is that this combination with the 3V is going to be a MONSTER. It will have the power of the big motor but with the rpm and revving capabilities of the 3V. My thinking is the 3V is likely going have different valve shrouding issues than the 4V as their are fewer large valves so they have more room to operate and fewer "edges" to flow around...

That is a bigger (1st) landing!

So is the only reason for going bigger is to protect the piston/landing even morefrom detonation /blowing out the 1st landing or are there other benefits to go the .300 over the Manley?

If possiblecould you post a picture of the dish on the Manley and what is your opinion on the Manleys?

One more question has anyone with a 3v went 8's yet in a S197?

I know Justin came real close the other week but I don't know if anyone has in a S197 3V, and yes it is fun watching what you are doing with this 3v vs 4v in a S197 and is very impressive (vs 4V S197 aka someonesGT500 )imo.

In most cases involving motors and rotating assemblies, bigger is better. The bigger pistons are a result of boring out the cylinders to accomodate them. The bigger the the bore, the bigger the pistons you can go. The trick is to find out how big of a bore you can without taking too much material away from the cylinders and compromising the integrity of the block. I really thought this block could handle as much as an .080 over, but it turned out .020 over was as big as you could safely go. That's why I went with a .015 over and will be satisfied with a around 342ci. This motor should be insane, no doubt and I'm really excited about it...

I'm pretty sure Justin has hit an 8 with his Procharger and juice. I know he breaks stuff almost every run...lol

My goal is to have a street driven ride that can hit 8's fairly reliably.

There's no replacement for displacement and the 342ci is a HUGE difference. The torque gains alone are worth it ten fold IMO.

You improve on flow/combustion with bore and nothing else, but the shorter stroke costs you power per stroke (given the same CR), but gains you RPM (less rotating mass from smaller parts), so the benefits of the bigger bore and stroke should work perfectly with the 3V IMO.

The Manley's are decent pistons. My top choices for these motors are the JE and the Diamond.

Update - got the block done and it turned out not be safe at 340ci.

The biggest I felt comfortable with was a .015 over and I am ending with 331ci. Still not bad for 4.6 3V...

Ditching the KB cause a unique opportunity came my way for a very special and unique blower. Can't give a lot of details now but will try to keep this thread updated. This car should be shreddin' the tracks in about 3 weeks...[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

I think the 331ci build coupled with my new monster 32 psi TS is going to break some records while still remaining a street driven car. Build pics and writeup to come soon...[8D]
