dead battery no power steering?

2006 gt mustang (saleen e) with manual

I have 3k miles on it. after leaving work today, I pull out onto a street and then all this sudden the steering goes numb. I can barley turn it but not by much. I pull over and leave the car there.

the dash blinks "checking charge"?

the car starts over the the battery light blinks red..........

only 3k on a car with a dead battery? (18 months in Arizona could do something with it?)

well the car at the parking lot where I work. I have no idea what I should do?

did I loose a belt or something when pulling out of work?

thanks in advance

just to verify-

you only have 3000 miles on the car in 18 months?
I think that could be part of the problem. The battery might not be getting properly charged and so won't hold a charge. Time for a new one and if you're not driving the car daily get a battery tender.
If you are driving the car daily it's time for an alternator check

No steering and an alternator light.
Is your accessories serpentine belt on?
Loosing the power steering and the
alternator charge at both times points
to your belt slipping off? Pop that hood
and see if the belt is still on her.
The hood release is the little handle
under the headlight switch on the dash.
Then you will need to also release the
hood with the secondary latch by reaching
under the hood with your fingers. lol

HA...dont make fun of too much. I know how to lift the hood

the car is still sitting the parking lot. Im going to go get it now. I will go over there now. I know a good guy who knows quite a bit about cars and bring him out with me. Im going in about 30 minutes.

asume the belt being off place can I personally just put it back on track myself?

Connect a USB cable from your computer to your PCM, type CHK_SYS at a DOS prompt. Copy and paste the results in to an email and send it to me. If you have the Shaker 1000 system you will need to hold down the Alt key.

It's the belt. Bet ya the A/C doesn't work either. Probably lost an idler pulley tensioner. Belt may still be there but not tight. That S/C is putting a BUNCH of strain on things. Sometimes parts just aren't quite right and things happen. I would seriously lean to a busted tensioner over a wiped out idler bearing. S/C has it's own belt so you would not see a loss in power.
