I'm not sure about Cobra's but Passports use a standarad telephone cord for power. The inner two wires if I remember correctly are used for power/ground.

I ran it above the windshield down the passanager A pillar to the fuse box, tapped the compass/mirror fuse since its switched.

The phone cord was essentially free, it took 5 minutes.

inside the arm rest storage compartment and plugged it into the 12v outlet. When the car turns on it goes on and when you remove the keys it stays on until someone opens a door.
I didnt know the arm rest power outlet was switched off with the accessorry delay.
I will have to look this up in the 07Ford workshop manual to see how its done.

How ironic, I was planning on hardwiring the cobra radar I just bought today. Thanks for the info.

I wired my radar detector from the mirror to the 12v outlet in the center counsel, I tucked the wire up into the headliner then through the a-arm and down under the dash. Zip tied it under the dash and into the center counsel and through the access panel inside the arm rest storage compartment and plugged it into the 12v outlet. When the car turns on it goes on and when you remove the keys it stays on until someone opens a door. I think this way is easier then hardwiring it to the fuse box or map lights.
Here is a pic from the 07 workshop manual showing HOT ALL THE TIME
for both power outlets. You must have the newfangled 08 model?

Hardwired my radar detector to my windshield wiper fuse with a

So easy, and such a clean install. Radar comes on when car starts, and goes off when car shuts off.
