Driveshafts in S197 V6 and GT ?
Hi guys,
I've heard a lot of reports that the two piece driveshafts in S197 V6 tend to be unreliable at speeds over 115, and can disintegrate. I was wondering how the DS in an S197 V6 and GT differ. Eventually I will upgrade to a one piece aluminum DS, but for argument's sake, the GT is capable of much higher speeds. Are they setup with a stronger DS, over what I would find in my 05 V6? Just wondering. Thanks !
PS. If the DS in a GT is better for what ever reason, has anyone come across them in the "take off" market, and if so can they be mated to the V6, and what do they go for...?

RE: Driveshafts in S197 V6 and GT ?
there are rated at higher speeds....actually i dont know if there is a top speed for the stock 2 piece GT DS......I have heard that the 6ers are rated low though.
As for getting a replacement....i think you need a special one piece and the GT stock 2 peiece will not work either

The V-6 driveshaft is not a 2 piece(thats a slip joint)and itIS a piece of crap. The V-8 is a 2 piece andis HEAVY(40+ pounds)and you can get an aluminum replacement for both. V-6 and V-8 driveshafts will not interchange and I think auto and manual are different, too. My V-6 aluminum shaft weights 17 pounds and is VIBRATION FREE.

The driveshafts are different lengths and won't fit. I have the 4" Shaftmasters and have been very happy with it - lighter, NO vibration, and the acceleration is smooth and quick.
