Default ? for those with alum D/S with new flange, NOT adapter!!

To further qualify responses, I am looking not only for those with new flanges (instead of adapters), but also those who did the install themselves.

What brand did you use?

Were they any special tools required?

What size socket is needed to get the factory pinion flange off?

Did you replace the crush collar? If not, what did you do?

Anything you'd do differently now that you know?

Thanks!!

I would say FORD is the only one who sells the correct flange ... FRPP sells them listed as for an 03/04 Cobra. Use the Chilton's guide for the replacement ... follow the directions for replacing the pinion seal ... but ignore the part about replacing the seal. They explain how to retain the proper pinion depth and the tools you will need.

Pinion depth is set with a shim not a crush collar. The crush collar sets pinion bearing preload not depth. Don't worrie about preload as you will nor come close to the required torque to crush the collar more (about 450 ft lbs.) You will simply put the pinion nut on with locktite to the required torque (I can't remember maybe 125 or 140 ft lbs.) A 2 jaw puller is handyto get the old one off. Many have complained that the stock bolts were hard all the way out, they have some serious locktite on them, if you heat them from the back of the flange for just a couple of seconds with a propane torch they come out like butter. Order a Spydershaft & call it a day, they are all smooth, He gives you good directions & He will answer questions if you get stuck.

The one who sells the CORRECT flange is the one who makes the driveshaft I'm looking at... ??

jmk3 - I do not want an adapter in my driveline. I am willing to pay someone else to do the install with a new pinion flange, if necessary, but that's why I'm trying to gauge installation difficulty to see if a weekend warrior mechanic could do it. Next week I'm going to be installing my own Saleen Series VI (the reason I want the new d/s), so I think I'm fairly handy, it's just that I've never done rear end work. Engine work doesn't scare me so much. LOL

What brand did you use?

Came with new spydershaft

Were they any special tools required?

Several gear pullers rented from Autozone. Boy it was a pain. Luckily I could push new flange on with factory nut.

What size socket is needed to get the factory pinion flange off?

I dont know

Did you replace the crush collar? If not, what did you do?

Knew nothing about it.

Anything you'd do differently now that you know?

Research the crush collar more, though everything is working fine.

Thanks!!

1. Spydershaft. Excellent workmanship. Excellent price.

2. A large 3 jaw puller to remove the factory pinion flange.

3. 27mm

4. No. I used a new pinion nut and torqued to 140 ft. lbs.

5. No. It was easy.

there is an installation guide for the spydershaft at www.leonardracingproducts.com

It might help you decide on whether or not you want to do it yourself, but trust me, it's a cakewalk.

OP ... I see you edited your reply but I had already received an email with your V6 bashing. I was just trying to help you out ... I installed an aluminum DriveShaft and the new Cobra Flange on the GT 8.8 Rear End that is in my Car ... So yes ... I have replaced the flange on the GT rear ... and when it comes to aluminum DS .. the V6 and GT are identical except for the length. And if the DS you purchased requires a different flange ... I guarantee the one the are selling you is a 03/04 Cobra Flange ....
