Hey guys the only reason that they recomend 5-20w is for gas mileage,10-30w will not hurt.
I run 10-30 mob syn in my Crown vic with no probs, And it still out runs my stang .......

OMG!Not again. 20W in the GT, 30W in the 6 banger regardless of what kind of gas mileage they want you to get. Care to let me in on your little secret?

i've always been told that it's 3 months OR 3,000 miles because after three months the properties in your oil actually begin to break downand your oil become slightly acidic (not sure if this is just conventional oil or conventional and synthetic)
This is true. As moisture (H2O)gets in the mix over time (you really can't prevent this because it comes from the air), it combines with sulfur in oilto form sulfuricacid (H2SO4). This will accelerate corrosion on everything the oil touches. Not sure if sulfur is present in synths, but I'll bet it is.

This is why you should start your engine even if it is stored over the winter months and let it come up to operating temp. TO GET RID OF THE MOISTURE.

The Saleen and Roush manuals say 5w30. I think Shelby says 5w30 for the S-GT too. Just throwing that out there...

If your CVPI is outrunning your Stang, perhaps oil changes are the least of your worries. Unless your CVPI is modded like crazy.

I guess I would hesitate letting a negative Service Dept. interaction affect your attitude towards that beautiful beast of yours. It's not the car's fault. Plus, black Stangs have +5 hp than the others.

My point was that it isn't all about fuel economy. That is why aFord says to use different weights in different engines. Otherwise, lets all us 50W like the GT500.

There's nothing internally different between those three and a stock GT though. If the addition of intake/exhaust/tune and possible expectation of harder driving caused a change in the recommended oil spec, well... that would probably apply to about 75% of the people here too.

I use regular oil, not synthetic. My dad was a lab tech for a major oil company (recently retired) and was in the research and development of motor oil including synthetics. He holds patents on several blends includingmotorcyle racing oil and auto oil. Remember, be it regular oil or synth., all of it has to pass the same federal standard tests for the grade. Most companies, Shell, Castrol, Exxon, Chevron etc, etc.....make dispersants (thechemicals they put in oil to keep ithappy in all kinds of weather) which they all buy and use in their blends. You may think you are buying one thing , being brand loyal....but you are really buying the product of several companies. If my Dad was not "blending his own" which he did a lot, for use in our cars, he pretty much bought what was on sale, as he knew what was in it all. I did not buy oil for any of my cars for years...he simply got the recipe and mixed some up at work!!!! How about that!! So I will stick with regular oil for my GT and he for his sixer. And yes it is important to change it on a regular basis. They do test this stuff in the labs on actual engines and cars. And forget the oil additives.... they just end up in the oil filter.
