Buying a GT

Hi, I'm new to the forums and currently looking for a 05+ GT, 5 speed coupe.

I wanted to know before I go shopping anything in particular to look for, common problems, slight model year differences, etc. I would mostly like buying a 05 or 06 because they fit my budget a little better, any advantages to the 06? How is the reliability thus far?

Does anybody have any links to sites explaining the difference option packages available so I can compare prices?

Thanks for any help. I'm really excited about joining the club.

RE: Buying a GT

The 05's and 06's had pretty much the same list of problems, with one exception (that I know of) - early model 05's had this feature where you could roll the windows up (or down? I forget) using the key fob. Problem was, the windows would randomly roll themselves down.

Either way, any of the issues either model has were addressed with TSB's, and so you shouldn't have ny problems getting them fixed. I think there may have been a gas tank issue with the 05's too, but IIRC it was also reported with some 06's.

The only problem I've had with my '06 so far is the fuel pump TSB, 06-06-09 (I think that's the number). Took it to the dealer, fixed it right up, all good.

Well, that and I had both quarter windows replaced due to bad vertical gaskets on them where they seal to the door window. But that's it.

Oh yeah. And I need to have my radio replaced, the damn aux in isn't working anymore. I'm going to try disconnecting the battery for a bit first, but otherwise, the skipper 1000 will need to be replaced (warranty).

Either way, enjoy. It's a good car, and for the money, I'd be hard pressed to pick something more fun (and powerful).

RE: Buying a GT

i test drove an 05 with low miles about a month ago, the shocks were shot and the clutch was totally gone. but that one was clearly driven VERY hard. i have had my 05 for a little over a year now and other than the shaker 500 i havent had a single problem with it. and as for the shaker, i got it replaced with my panasonic touchscreen a week after i bought the car so now i have zero problems.

I have my '05 for three years, and knock on wood I haven't had one single problem. I hope I didn't Jinx myself with that statement. If you find a clean well cared for example, I can't think of a reason for you not to buy it......Welcome to the Forum, Enjoy.
