The difference between a 93 and 89 tune is nothing compared to the difference between 87 and stock. If you are worried about $, go with the 87 for now. It makes a big diff over stock. Then, next summer say, try the 93 and you'll get another big grin.

Whichever Tune you load, will be a HUGE improvement over your Stock Tune. Go with the 87 at first, then when gas prices settle down........which may be never, you can upgrade to the higher octane Tune.

ehh gas prices are pretty high write now and i dont have any money comin in sooo i hope the 87 tune wont be too bad
If you drive your Pony like 10,000 miles per year, the difference in gas will be about $150 PER YEAR.

That's $12.50 PER MONTH.

What's that, like two Big Mac meals from McDonalds per month? I had always figured 93 octane would be way expensive as well, but when you break it down, it basically amounts to nothing. And for all those extra horses, man, $12.50 a month?

**Credit to exx1976 for doing the math.

I just loaded my 93 tune today. I have been running the 87 and its a big diff over the stock tune. It seems like the 87 pulls harder down lower and 93 pulls like a beast at the top. Seems like below 3 grand the 87 feels stronger but over 3 grand the 93 pulls like a mother. Anyone else notice?

My car wouldn't start with the 91 tune installed.

I run the 87 tune in mine. I also drive about 27-28k miles a year. Huge difference over stock. I have the 93 tune and ran it for awhile. You can tell a definite difference but for someone who doesnt ever race (except back and forth from work) it's not worth the extra cost. My local gas station gouges on 93 for some reason. I can go down the road a few miles and get it reasonably, but again, not worth it for me personally.

The difference between the 87 stock tune and the 87 custom tune is greater than the difference between the 87 custom and 93 custom tunes, but not by much. I received the 87, 89 and 93 tunes since I'm on the road a lot and can't always get the higher octane gas and I typically run the 89 tune. Each car is a bit different how it responds and I feel my 89 tune pulls harder in the lower range than with the 93... But that's just MY opinion.

Default RE: 87 vs 93 octane tune

I have Brenspeed tunes 87, 91, and 93.
As stated already, the biggest difference is between stock and 87 tune.
I have automatic and Brenspeed tuned the shifting also, so it feels that the car goes like grazy even with the 87 tune.
But, as I live in area that has a lot of 25 mph speed limits and the shifting point with the tune is so close to that speed, the
transmission doesn't know which gear to keep, so it upshifts and downshifts a lot. I got tired for the shifting and asked Brenspeed to give me the stock shifting schedule with firmer shifting. Once I loaded that tune, the difference is again, huge. Now the car felt so lazy after driving a while with the agressive tune and shifting. To really compare the stock and 87 tune, I quess I should now put back the stock tune and see/feel the difference.
So in my opinion, the engine tune increases HP but especially with auto tranny the biggest affect is with the transmission software
setup.

Back to original question.
Haven't tried the 93 tune yet, but I didn't feel that much difference between 87 and 91 tunes.
