RE: Cam Covers Painted
Did they use engine enamel? The temparture in the engine compartment get's pretty hot. I did this mode myself last year using VHT engine enamel. I topped it off with Engine clearkote. I cleaned the valvecovers, snded them with finr sandpaper, applied engine primer, paint and then clear coat. Here is a link to the instructions and a picture of the finished products.

RE: Cam Covers Painted
It was VHT gold engine enamel. It actally is a lot brighter but when you clear coat it, it dulls the color out a bit. It actually is very close to the original gold color on the valve covers from the 60's. Ive had them painted for a year and they are holding up well but I've only put $2K miles in the past year and I keep the engine very clean.
I was going to have them powder coated but they wanted close to $200 to PC them here on LI and I wasn't sure what color to go with. The paint was less then $25 including primer, 2 cans of paint and 2 cans pf top coat. I gave it a lot of coats. I figured if I did not like the color after a while, I could strip the paint and repaint them a little color but after seeing them on the car, the gold on a red car was definitely a good choice. It's also a good choice for black cars.
You have to be very careful putting the cam covers back on. It's very easy to scratch or chip them. I wrapped a towel around them during thrinstall and removed the towel after they were in place.
I got the Ford racing decals from Ebay for about $10. I put them on before the clearcoat so that the clearcoat would protect them. It came out real nice. the finish is very smooth and it looks like the the ford racing logo is painted on instead of just a decal.

Well the job is done I added new pics to my original post, feedback welcome, I think it looks pretty good, now I need to put my Strut Tower Brace back on, and find someone to make me more stainless hoses.
