besides, isn't it a little more work to skip 2nd? going from 1-2 it's just pull the **** down. instead you've got to pull half-a$$ into the center then push up. i don't know just use 2nd. i get 16.8mpg and i jet from light to light.

I wonder if you aren't over doing it in first in order to get up to high enough speed for 3rd.
I vote for proper 1, 2, 3 etc, shifting with a light right foot to keep the mpg reasonable.
I also noticed with Automatic my car goes into 5th at just over 35mph! I tried cruising down a street at that speed and when I turned my overdrive off the revs went up!

trust me you will know if you are lugging....it will sound like a freakin diesel almost and you will step on the accelerator and it wont react.

Below what RPMs is lugging it? I cruise at like 45 in 5th, and that doesn't really seem like lugging it to me
I have 3:73s ad still dont shift to 5th unless I am above 50mph...I HATE the sluggish feel of 5th [:@]
