just bought 05 gt, exhaust question
i just bought a 05 gt and it has flowmaster mufflers in them. a muffler shop in my area has some x-pipes that i can have installed for a decent price. my question is, would getting x pipes with stock cats and flowmaster mufflers get any louder and will it get any performance gains? i would like a little louder exhaust. or should i just save for some hi-flow cats first? thanks.

Personally, I would hold off and get either a hi-flow catted h-pipe or off-road h-pipe. I don't like the x-pipe sound although they can sound great with the right combo. Just harder to get that right combo with the x setup.
And you're only talking about a few hp difference between x and h pipe. I'd rather have the sound of the h-pipe. IMO.

Sounds like you're dead-set on an x-pipe. Just my opinion, but I've NEVER heard an x-pipe and chambered (FM, JBA, and others) sound good with an x-pipe.
I've heard FRPP supreme GTA's sound great with an x-pipe and also Corsa and Bassani "race" sound really good. All are "straight-thru"/louvered muffs.

Any type of chambered muffler will sound very raspy and tin-like when using x-pipes. Go H pipes for chambered mufflers, either catted or O/R (if you dont have smog testing). My suggestion would be to put a Pypes O/R H-pipe on the car and it'll sound nice and deep. Congrats on your new car you'll love her!

Sell the flowmasters and get diff mufflers, my neighbor has that set up with a o/r h[:'(], my other neighbor has cut outs and she sounds better then he does and I sound better then both with my set up [8D]. honestly IMO the flows are way to hush hush and when they get loud its blah......
