not recommended unless they are for track use only, and even then 285/40 is made for a 9.5 rim or so

Won't handle right. An experienced tire shop would propbably not mount them.

i have seen a tire wall crack due to forcing wider tires a rim that should go there..........

dont risk your car. 285 is for a 9.5 inch rim

What about this on a 17x8?

If you are at stock ride height the extra 1.3" wont cause any clearance problems.
