Default Cleaning a C&L CAI???

Hey guys, I was cleaning my car today and noticed my intake is really black, how can I go about cleaning it? I tried searching but the only thing that came up was a Steeda CAI Cleaning kit. Can I do this without having to buy something?

Thanks.

Replace rather than clean.
But remember, a dirty filter
catches more dirt than a clean one.

A new filter is $40. I'd rather clean it, any suggestions please?

Youshould be able tosimply clean and re-oil it. K&N offers such a kit, with red oil. Take a some time and be sure NOT to apply too much oil. Doing so can affect your MAF. I have a Steeda CAI and bought their cleaning kit (w/blue oil.) After 6k miles and some dusty conditions the filter looked dirty to me. I cleaned it per the instructions in the kitand I could not believe how much dirt got rinsed out. Re-oiled, installed and ready to go...
